Anna Russell 'Cityscape II'

400.00

2005, oil and wax medium on canvas, 200 x 260mm

Anna Russell created this work during a period of intense experimentation following her graduation from art school. Painted overlooking the iconic terrace rooftops of Sydney’s Inner west, the shapes and colours of the work capture her view under shifting light. Russell combined oil and wax medium to build a thickness to the texture of her paint and the work’s surface references the encaustic wax painting she was exploring during this period. The small scale, offered a space for experimentation.

Russell was winner of the Waverley Art Prize in Mixed Media (2012), and has been an exhibiting fnalist in numerous awards, including the Waverley Art Prize, Fishers Ghost Art Award, Liverpool City Art Prize, Greenway Art Prize, The Art Scene Printmaking Award (UNSW Art & Design) and North Sydney Art Prize. Russell holds a MFA (Printmaking) from UNSW Art & Design (2016) and a BFA from the National Art School (2004).
