The Mystery Train series captures moments of shared isolation in the transition between the private and public spheres. Taken on a camera phone, Gabriel Clark explores the rising dominance of digital photography and the aesthetics of digital materialism. His photographs layer refraction through windows, reflection and rain. Clark’s choice of large format prints further the distortion through digital ‘noise’ reminiscent of a charcoal drawing or tapestry.

With a growing fetish for analogue photography Clark leans into the visual artifacts of digital photography and photo manipulation as a visual language turning the ongoing moment of the train commute into a subjective narrative based on aesthetics.

Gabriel Clark is Associate Lecturer at the School of Design at the University of Technology, Sydney teaching areas include sequential art, interaction design, motion design and photography. He conceived and produces the ongoing, award winning storytelling project Radio With Pictures and is a co founder of the Graphic festival at the Sydney Opera House. He has also produced and run workshops, exhibitions, screenings and live shows for the Sydney Writers Festival, Community Broadcasting Conference and the Graphic festival.
