Francesca Zak is a printmaker who is both physically and conceptually driven by the transparent and visually dilution. Zak’s practice involves the collection of ‘Poor’ images that circulate the internet. The value of these images is based upon the speed at which they can travel; a direct result of their extreme compression.

Interested in this self-inflicted displacement, Zak dignifies the images. She welcomes the images into a physical existence and stretching them over a constructed frame so to align them with the hierarchical history of painting, however the images remain void of resolution. Printed onto transparent polyester and visually diluted through the process of compression, the images have ensured their own disembodiment, existing only as the residue of an image. Through consciously pulling these images into the physical world with great care and fragility, Zak acknowledges the beauty of their value existing within their absence.
