An unconventional approach to the stretched painter’s canvas presented in two parts as an ensemble; as a stretcher bed, and a set of overalls. Through the linen and canvas materials, and wordplay of ‘stretcher’, the ensemble reinterprets the underlaying architecture of the painters canvas, a paintings support. Relating to the body, to lay on, to get into, and traditional practices of painting, putting them to bed or fitting them out for a new beginning.

Joe Wilson and Chanelle Collier have regularly collaborated on studio works that shift the identity of objects, sites, and roles. Playing on relations in an exhibition process to parallel how signs and conventions shape social identity and value.
