2007, oil on paint sample card, 90 x 120mm

Julia Flanagan began collecting hardware shop paint sample cards as pocket-sized painting surfaces to take on an overseas trip. She became fascinated with the infinite array of colours. Flanagan’s painterly snapshots of collected items float on the solid ground of these cards, extracted from their surroundings like prized domestic gems, or forming tiny windows to pull you in.

Flanagan was a fnalist in the Greenway Art Prize (2016, 2015), was shortlisted for the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship (2004) and holds a BFA with Honours from the National Art School.
